Apply for Adoption

The adoption process

1. Application forms are filled out by potential adopters.
2. Applications are approved based on the quality of the potential adoption home, not whether they applied first.

3. A representative from Wheektown meets with the potential adopter over Skype. Preferably all members of the household will be present at the session. Wheektown can get to know the adopter and the other members of the household to ensure the best match is being made.
LONG-DISTANCE
4. The approved adopter must print out and sign the adoption agreement. A non-refundable adoption fee is to be paid and the agreement mailed to Wheektown before the guinea pigs can be transported. If not already, the cage must be also set up and a photo of it sent to Wheektown before the guinea pigs can be transported.
5. If the adopter is unable to pick the guinea pigs up from Manor Lakes, they are transported via Dogmovers or another transport service to their new home. Upon receiving the guinea pigs, the adopter must take a photo of them in their new home and send it to Wheektown. It is only once we see they are safe and sound that transfer of ownership is complete.
6. Copies of the guinea pigs' files are mailed to the adopter. This includes their weight charts, medical histories, a copy of the adoption agreement, and any other relevant documents.
IN PERSON
4. An appointment is arranged for the potential adopter to visit the Wheektown residence. The adopter must bring their existing guinea pig(s) if they are adopting a companion for them.
5. The approved adopter must read and sign the adoption agreement and pay the non-refundable adoption fee before taking the guinea pig(s) home. Copies of the guinea pigs' files will be sent home with the adopter. This includes their weight charts, medical histories, a copy of the adoption agreement, and any other relevant documents.
6. The adopter must take a photo of them in their new home and send it to Wheektown. It is only once we see they are safe and sound that transfer of ownership is complete.
