To increase the number of guinea pigs being adopted out, Wheektown provides transport of all our animals to the adopter to virtually anywhere in Australia.
A map of everywhere we've adopted to
For those along the eastern coast, we rely on an animal transport service called Dogmovers. They run every week or every fortnight depending on the route. Wheektown covers the cost of transport within south Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. Adopters in central to northern Queensland may need to cover the extra difference; this difference maxes at $120 to the northernmost route point, Cairns. Adopters will need to meet Dogmovers at a specified time and location along the route in order to pick up the guinea pigs. You may request that they drop off closer to your home, though they charge $50 per half hour travelled outside the route and this will need to be covered by you. You may also need to cover the cost of a carrier, which is around $15 for a makeshift one or $40 for a high-quality one, and which you can then keep.
For those outside the Dogmovers route, we can transport animals via Qantas. This is available most days. Wheektown covers the cost of transport up to $100, with adopters paying the difference after that amount. Examples of differences are $40 to Adelaide, $130 to Darwin, $110 to Perth, and $50 to Hobart. Adopters will need to pick the guinea pigs from their airport. You will also need to cover the $40 cost of an airline-approved carrier, which you can then keep. Please note that if you are able to travel to Dogmover's route (above) we will ask you to - for the safety of the guinea pigs, ground transport is always preferred.
